Site popularity ranking shows a number of your site’s rank in world site popularity rank. Eg google.com has been ranked number 1 most popular site since most (not all, there was a moment when Facebook pipped it) of ranking time.
WHO WAS RANKING WEBSITE POPULARITY?
It was Alexa which retired on 1 May 2022. It was owned by Jeff Bezos the richest person in the world. In June 2022 I still have access but with fewer people having the Alexa browser extension from where we get the ranking information, it is getting less accurate. I used Alexa site popularity rankings to plot site popularity charts. You can get to the reciprocal of mostly Perth sites via www.sitepopularity.biz.

CRITICISM OF ALEXA RANKING
It’s true to say that the number of people with the Alexa extension is a very small percentage of total web users but I say show me a bigger marketing survey sample. There are 5 billion web users. Even if 1 percent have the Alexa extension, that’s a bigger survey sample than any Nielsen or newspaper poll.

Because site popularity is a marketing KPI it needs regular easy to read reporting. Eg monthly marketing reports by those with the job of marketing manager to the general manager. I use Alexa data about every 6 weeks to produce line charts of the RECIPROCAL of Alexa rankings.
WHY THE RECIPROCAL OF ALEXA SITE POPULARITY RANKING?
Because it’s a quick and easy visual way to understand site popularity charts. This site about an unusual profession in the small city of Perth Western Australia, despite being very niche is about the world’s 450 thousandth most popular site in the world. (Out of 1.9 billion websites). If I plotted google.com (1st) against mine, visually it would look like my site would be much more popular on a column chart than google.com. It’s why I plot the reciprocal.
